Week 8-Reflection

Service Learning within a classroom has been so beneficial for me. As a hands on learner, it was a good opportunity to see what was taught in class and how those principles were applied in a classroom setting. It also opened my mind on how topics can be taught or included in the classroom, so it can be fun for the children, and I won't come off as a robot.
Seeing the teacher handle different challenges that came up while she taught was interesting, it was nice to see how she handles difficult children, taking boring topics and making them fun, and even making sure the children respect her, but also makes sure she is a friend and a supporter.

Blogging about my experience has helped me as well, because it gave me a purpose while I am in the classroom. It helped me focus on something the teacher was doing, and how it applied. I think if we didn't blog or have to write about what we were doing in the classroom, I wouldn't have learned as much, because I wouldn't have anything to focus on.

I think I have been able to grow to a better understanding of what a teacher is. At first I think I had an idea of what a teacher is, but going through the class and working in a classroom I was able to see a teacher is more than someone who teaches a subject. There are more pieces to the puzzle. This class has given me more excitement and determination to become a good teacher.
