Week 7-Standardized Testing
Some of the standards I see being addressed, are what the children should know when reading to move on to the next grade level.
To know pick out pronouns, nouns, verbs, and adjectives and adverbs in a sentence seem to be what the teacher if focusing on. When reading a book in the classroom she will stop and ask the children to point one out in the text.
Other things that are being focused is not only reading a book, but being able to write a paragraph our a story clearly and efficiently.
Some things that I don't see address and I don't know if it is because it happens at a different part of the day then when I am in the classroom, is showing kids to pronounce words they don't know, or how to comprehend the text that they are actually reading.
Some of the other subjects I don't see a ton of time spent on is creative thinking, like art, and music. This could be I am only there for 2 hours a day 1-2 a week and I am missing that time, or that it isn't a big focus.
I know the teacher I am placed with, doesn't love standardized testing. She likes having a guideline of what needs to be taught because it helps her plan her lessons. But she doesn't think the testing is fair, or accurate with the students in the classroom, and she thinks that some of the standards that need to be taught are less important than others that are taught.
