Week 6-Teaching around the World.
There is a lot of diversity within my service learning classroom. There is a heavier population of Latinos that are in the classroom, and even a girl from Sweden.
The teacher doesn't treat them any different than the rest of the students, meaning she treats them all very equal. She has mentioned to me that the parents of the Latino students are more inclined to call bout their children, and wanting to know what goes on in the classroom. Because of this she has a period in the month other than parent teacher conferences, that those parents can come in and understand what is happening in the classroom. She really trys to get to know the students parents and develop a relationship with them, so she can get more knowledge on how best to teach their children.
One of the other things she does, is she tries to find books that are all over the world for the students. She will even assign them different things to read and teach the other students about. When you walk into her classroom she has a big map of the world, and will have an interesting fact about some part of the world for her students to read each day.
This is something small, but it gives the students a way to learn something about the people in the world, and what is all out there for them to experience.
