Week 5 Brown v. Board
There is definitely a difference between how schools operated back then compared to today.
After reading and researching about how African Americans were treated when they finally decided to quit segregation is awful. I wasn't around back then during that time, but just reading about it makes me sick to my stomach, that people would treat African Americans like dirt.
In my service learning classroom, it is so nice to see how everyone is treated the same by the teacher. She doesn't favor children based on their race or gender. This also goes for the children in the classroom. There are white children sitting next to Latinos or African American children and don't seem to bat an eye that they are different then them.
If we could all look at everyone with the innocence of a child. They may have their friends in the classroom, but they don't choose them based on the color of their skin.
I think the whole reason a child can now play with those of different colors or gender is because of the Brown Vs. Board. Segregation was eliminated and children have been able to grow up with more opportunities available, and getting to know more people.
This has been able to develop our society to become more peaceful and to help everyone around you.
